What is LEED?

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a program that was developed by the US Green Building Council and is now adapted in Canada by the Canadian Green Building Council.  

Green Buildings, or sustainable buildings, are structures that use valuable resources more efficiently than buildings that are simply built to code.  LEED Canada provides rating systems and certification programs that enable owners and developers reap the benefit of operating a more efficient and less expensive facility.  LEED Canada focuses the design and construction team on operating life cycle costs, not initial construction costs.

How does Sika contribute to LEED certified buildings?

Sika has been a leader in formulating environmentally friendly products, as well as pursue ambitious environmental and safety objectives in manufacturing.  It is not a coincidence that many of the producing companies at Sika are certified to comply with ISO 14001 standards.  

When it comes to LEED, Sika provides a range of Adhesives and Sealants, as well as Coatings that satisfy LEED.  

Does Sika have LEED Products?

There is no such thing as a LEED Product.  Owners, Architects, Engineers, and Contractors can choose Sika products that meet the standards described in LEED Canada-NC and CI Rating Systems.  

In which categories do Sika Products help to accumulate points?

Sika products can contribute to achieve LEED certification under the categories “Indoor Environmental Quality” and to a more limited extent "Regional Materials").  Due to the low content of Volatile Organic Compounds, Sika products have been leading the industry for many years.  

Where can I find documents provided by Sika with respect to LEED rating systems?

Sika provides and regularly updates documents containing relevant information for certification on its website under the “LEED” section.
